1. What is the Marshfield Youth Soccer Association? The MYSA is a non-profit, all volunteer association dedicated to promoting competitive youth soccer for the Marshfield area
2. What is the cost? Marshfield Inferno has the lowest registration fee in the CWSL. Our registration fee for 2009 is $60.00 per player for U-10 (born after 8/1/95). The fee for U-11 and older (born before 8/1/95) is $75.00 (+$25.00 to cover 1 tournament). The cost of uniforms is $80.00; this includes two jerseys (home and away), one pair of shorts, and two pairs of socks. The uniform will be worn until your child grows out of it. Other costs may include purchase of shin guards, soccer cleats, and a soccer ball.
3. Who is eligible for membership in the association? All players living within the Marshfield area, without regard to gender, are eligible to play. In special circumstances, youths from surrounding communities that do not have competitive soccer available to them may be permitted to join.
4. How do you determine to which group my child will be assigned? The formula used by the MYSA in determining the appropriate age group is similar to the formula employed by the Central Wisconsin Soccer League - the player must be less than the U-age group prior to August 1st of that year. Example: To be eligible to join the U-14 Team the youth must be under 14 years of age as of July 31st of the year prior to the current season. In addition, teams cannot be over-rostered; therefore there may be a try-out situation depending on number of registered players for a particular team.
5. Can my child play at a higher age group? Generally, the association does not encourage "bumping up" to another age group because of increased physical contact and/or the possibility of another player at the appropriate age group not being able to make the team
6. How do I become a soccer coach? The association is always looking for coaches and/or assistant coaches, although, particular age groups may not currently be available. It must be noted that the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association requires levels of certification for the different age groups.
7. How do I become a soccer referee? The association is always looking for referees. It must be noted that the Central Wisconsin Soccer League requires levels of certification for the different age groups. For more information please contact the Referee Coordinator.
8. Are there separate teams for boys and girls? The MYSA has teams for both boys and girls at most age levels. The teams are designated by the title (e.g., U-14 Coed - either boys or both boys and girls on the same team, or U-14 Girls - only girls are allowed on the team). The number of members in each age and gender group determines each year the particular teams being fielded. Particular age/gender combinations cannot be guaranteed year-to-year.
9. How long is the season and when are games held? Generally, the season begins with indoor practices in March. Outdoor practices start around the beginning of April, weather permitting. Games begin around the first of May and continue through mid-July. Some differences may occur with U-15 Girls and older because of WIAA rules.
10. Do the teams participate in tournaments? The answer to this question depends upon the individual coaches. Generally, most coaches will try and get their respective team into 1-2 tournaments a year. All costs associated with the tournaments are the responsibility to the individual team.
11. How much travel is involved? Approximately half of the games are held in other cities within the Central Wisconsin Soccer League. The games are generally held in the early evening and most coaches try and arrange car pools to help limit the amount of travel. Please contact the individual coaches for particular information.
